BMW X4. First time I’ve been aware of seeing one in my life. It’s sedan-y, so it’s less practical than its wagon-y sibling, but the same comparison can be made for actual sedans and wagons.

No. Not sedan-y.
Liftback-y.

Well, it’s less ugly than the X6, 3GT, 5GT or the various Mercedes copycats, so I’ll give you that, I suppose.
But that’s a really low hurdle.

Is it rusting already? Look at that shit on the back door!

See, I think of 4 door liftbacks as a subset of sedans (and 2 doors as coupe). I don’t think of them as hatches.

I agree on all counts, but BMW doesn’t :
Enhance!

?
But the whole liftbackiness is akin to a hatchback and only slightly resembles a saloon visually.
My view is that hachbacks and liftbacks have (not always, there may be an exce ption or two here and there) have the hinges above the rear windows where a coupe or saloon has the hinges below the rear window.

I like the Merc ones but not really the BMWs, just prefer the smoother styling. But my car is also revoked.

Right, but IMO in classifying vehicles, visual cues are most important. A liftback is a type of sedan or coupe because it has the same silhouette as one. Like, take the Mazda6. It was offered as sedan and liftback with virtually the same silhouette
- it even has the notch for where the trunk would be on the sedan.

There’s appr oximately 300 people a month that agree with you. Seems too few to be worth it IMO, but the math works somehow for BMW.
Yet we can’t have a M2 sedan or in BMW speak a M2 “ Gr an C oupe”.

Visual cues are important, but only plays a part in it.
A coupe is a two door with a separate boot, a three door hatchback/liftback is a two door with a boot that opens into the main cabin of the vehicle, a saloon is a four door with a separate boot, a five door laftback/hatchback is a four door with a boot that opens into the main cabin of the vehicle, a five door estate is a four door with a near vertical tailgate and normally has a large D pillar.
To say these are both saloons does a diservice to the practicality of the liftback over the saloon.
Four door saloon
Five door liftback

I wish Ford sold the M ondeo wagon in the USA. While I’m dreaming equip it with the 2.7TT + AWD from our Fusion Sport.

Ye’, we don’t get those large inefficient engines.
The Fusion Sport with the 2.7 does 17US/ 20.4UKmpg to 26US/ 31.2UKmpg.
While the largest engine in the Mondeo estate is the
1.5 Ecoboost (163 bhp) 35.8US/43UKmpg to 39US/47UKmpg or the
2.0 diesel (148 bhp) 47.2US/57Ukmpg to 55.7US/67UKmpg.
There was a 123bhp 1.0 Ecoboost Mondeo which seems to of been discontinued.

Have you seen an x2 in person yet? Even worse than the 5gt

I honestly don’t know the difference between the X 2 and X1, and don’t really care. I’ve seen a bunch of at least one of those ( probably X1s, tbh).
And I’m a long time BMW fan and owner.

O you can tell the difference I think it's the ugliest car I've ever seen. I don't really care about them either just saw a few driving around and wondered what could possibly posses someone to buy a car that looks like that.

Yeah - the X2 is the one with BMW badges on the effing rear pillar, isn’t it?
Looks like they took an X 1 and partly melted it down. Bleah.

Practicality aside, this is a hideous and ill proportioned car
